free note

Here they are, in no particular order:

1. There are no ads on Notd, so we don't have to amplify sensational posts to sell more of them. And we don't need to collect personal information to help advertisers target their ads.

2. We don't boost notes or streams, instead we make it easy for readers to discover new content, like filtering note searches by news, opinion, ideas, reviews, etc., and/or subject.

3. Unlike other networks, you can publish more than 1 channel, which we call a “stream”. Maybe you like to write about infosec & the NBA but maybe readers of one of those aren't that interested in the other topic. So publish two streams or one, we don't care.

4. People who want to read what you write don't “follow you”, they subscribe to your stream. Each post in a stream is called a note. Subscribers can choose to have notes emailed to them, like a newsletter.

5. Writers can offer one month and/or one year subscriptions. The minimum price for a subscription is 1 cent/mo or 10 cents/year. Subscribing to 500 1-cent streams is only $5 per month (the minimum price for a paid newsletter on a platform that only offers newsletters).

6.There are monetization options for writers and publishers – if they charge > 1 cent/mo, they can keep 90% of revenue about 1 cent/mo.

7. Flexible notifications: four modes for feed: 1) all latest notes on network, subscribed or not; 2) latest notes from subscribed streams with full excerpts; 3) headlines of newest notes from subscribed streams; 4) headlines & brief excerpts of newest notes from subscribed streams. And also optional email notifications.

8. Up to 25% of notes in a stream can be free to everybody. This helps you attract more subscribers.

9. Writers can offer podcasts on their streams. Any note in a stream can be text or audio.

10. We offer Team streams, which allow writers to offer “bundles”, where notes from multiple writers are offered as part of one subscription. The writers (or someone representing them, like a magazine) decide who is on the team and the price.

11. We also offer Community streams – open to public, private, invite only, or private invite only. These are for groups of people, usually about a specific subject. Members of the streams can post or comment.

12. You can annotate posts with hover notes - better than footnotes.

13. You can create custom short URLs for streams and notes, making it easier to share links.

14. Notes can be location-specific – good for reporting or reading local news.

15. You can post high res photos, not just low res thumbnails. A lot of good cameras out there, it's a shame to not be able to show off how good they (or the photographer) are.

16. You can edit already published notes. And there is no limit on their length. This note will probably get edited as we find typos or add new features.

You can publish here, too - it's easy and free.
