Be Somebody

In those first dark days after my son died, as I lay in bed crying myself to sleep, praying for a chance to see him just one more time, I realized I was looking at myself. I was literally standing next to my bed, looking at myself laying there, motionless. “Daddy?” His voice was soft and weak, as my son looked up at me. Forgetting everything else, I hugged him. “But Daddy, does this mean you’re dead, too?” “I don’t really know, and right now, I don’t care. I’m so glad to see you again.”

“You’d never believe what I thought I saw on my last shift, Jim,” I said to break up the night’s boredom. It was only 18 minutes into our shift, but felt like we’d been there for several hours, at least. “What’s that?” asked Jim idly. “Sam had called in and we couldn’t get anyone to cover,” I took another sip of my coffee, “so I was alone that night. I definitely need to get more sleep. So, I’m sitting here, trying to keep my eyes open, when I glance at the monitor for camera 5, and I swear I thought I saw--” “A puddy cat?” Jim interrupted. “No, asshole, it was this eight foot tall thing with arms that reached almost to the floor, and red eyes, and it was covered in this fuzz. Not fur, or anything, it was more just blurry.” “Hmm,” said Jim, “you really do need to get more sleep.” “Definitely.” I hadn’t slept well in weeks. Between the kid in the apartment next to mine learning drums, and the family above me having an English mastiff and two kids that like to get it riled up, my apartment is less than ideal for trying to sleep during the day. “But if I ever see anything like that again, I may end up taking a restful vacation to the looney bin.” “I’m sure your friendly neighborhood sanitarium would be very welcoming,” Jim chuckled.

Mushrooms, the fruit of the fungi that grow in the ground below us, are practically a work of art by themselves. They can come in a wide variety of shapes and colors; some mushrooms are even bioluminescent. However, we humans have found a way of turning Mother Nature’s gift into something even more. How, you may ask? Mycosculpting.

I was driving home with my dad recently, and we ended up stopping for gas. When we did, he got out to fill the car and I walked around, having seen the pay phone above. Most people would look at it with aversion, seeing an outdated piece of trash, and a vandalized one at that.

Film Addict ReviewsOct 17, 2023

I give in-depth movie/film reviews usually spoiler-free. My reviews will be optimistic but I'm not afraid to critique where it's needed. Included in each review will be a film** and movie* rating on a 1/10 scale an explanation of why it scored the way it did on each scale, and a recommendation on whether you should see it in theaters, wait for a streaming service or just skip it entirely. If you have any movies you would like me to review, please feel free to let me know. *movie rating: the entertainment value **film rating: based on quality of filmmaking skills Instagram: @jreynoldsreviews

Haunted Mansion Review *Movie Rating: 8.5/10 **Film Rating: 10/10 I saw Haunted Mansion when it first came out in theaters and watched it again on Disney+ for this review. There are many details I didn't notice until my second viewing that I'll be talking about below, but right now, let's talk about expectations. Anyone who knows anything about me knows I scare relatively easily and as a result, I am not part of the group that loves Halloween and all things scary. I want to. I really do, but if I sit through something truly scary, like the new Exorcist movie or any Conjuring film I won't sleep for days. So, when I saw the trailer for Haunted Mansion, I was actually excited.

The Creator Review *Movie Rating: 4/10 **Film Review: 6/10 If you follow me on Instagram you know this isn't a movie I was super excited to see. Nothing about the premise really blew me away when I first saw the trailer. I was interested in the premise and where they would take it but my expectations weren't exactly high. The Creator is one of those movies I didn't think too much about beforehand and just sat back to enjoy an experience. So while I have a lot to say about the film and a good chunk of it is not praise, I don't want anyone to think that my criticism is the result of high expectations. Because I barely had any.

Expendables 4 Review *Movie Rating: 6/10 ** Film Rating: 4/10 I want to preface this review by saying I absolutely love the '80s and '90s action movies which the expendables so lovingly try to recreate and replicate in their films. I grew up on movies like the Lethal Weapon series, Die Hard, the Terminators, and Face Off. I am 100% in what should be the target audience for these movies. That being said, I still do have some bad things to say about this movie, but that does not mean I have any disdain for this type of crazy action movie.

Comment I keep to myself

This could go on a loop for the rest of eternity. This one clip. It could evolve and devolve slavery chains all over again. Keep your eyes on the future. Wait the future isn't in our time. It's why we have to declare a new year, what if they decided to turn back time too like a time machine and destroy generations of tech. So many things could happen. So seeing this is no surprise . What they do to people to get them to act this way is letting their world devolve and evolve from history books. The things noted on certain people. The surprise is that it all repeats itself sooner or later. It's because these people need a job and they feed from these fiascos. 2 years for this? I've been through this stuff all my life and no one faces the consequences if they call the shots. It's not real freedom, it wasn't what they claimed. It was a trap. It's not about wrong doing or the angels that will keep you from it, but they expect us to believe. Living at the mercy of what? Jobs, cellmate, police, Isolation. Is this really what you want to keep on a loop. No, it is what it is. You change something, we can't, neither can I. Things have never changed. Lazy boy long live the lazy? ......... Yuck Point is I've seen a lot of crime and yes they only care when it's their government, or someone who is the tax payer and has a lawyer. Some of us will never really have that privilege. How to really change the unsettling future. This could keep evolving and devolving in the future and we live in a limbo of time and numbers of people who keep going to prison, but how are you going to change this from happening. Are you stumped? We are always stumped until someone finds the other end that you were not going to do yourself, whether that's in crime or good. They are all just numbers of people trying to escape the matter that we are stuck in. What can I say I'm not sound. I eat meat. If not I eat fruit. Who knows of fruit has feelings too. So tell me are you happy now that you've put this on a loop. Lazy boy? Yuck. Maybe all some people say is ew. We live in lazy time period. And all they have to say about everything is ew. So it has factual back up add. Lazy boy long live the lazy.
