Silas Smith stepped out onto the dirt and road and shut the car door behind him. He looked down at his watch. It was 2:33 PM on January 14th. Reeling from his sharp headache, Silas staggered into the looming warehouse. He then glared at a dirty old man leaning against it. “Dave’s in the second door on your right.” The man stared back at him with a smirk. Silas ignored the old man and slowly ventured deeper into the hallway, footsteps echoing throughout the claustrophobic space. Soon, he reached the metal door and stared it down. Trembling from exhaustion, though still determined. Bang! Bang! Bang! Silas pounded on the iron, infuriated about what was being kept from him beyond it. “I got it! I got it!” A tall man in a suit opened the door and chuckled upon seeing Silas. “Been waiting for you. Take a seat.” The man gestured to a plastic chair on his left. Identical to the one on his right. Silas crouched down into a chair along with the man across from him. Then, they sat there in silence for a moment. The only sounds came from a girl crying in the corner of the room. “D-daddy? Are you gonna take me home?” Silas held back the tears welling up in his eyes. “Stay quiet Jennie. Daddy’s gonna get you the hell out of here.” He hoped that was true. “That’s right sweetie. Your old man will take you home with him as long as you all listen to what I ask.” The man then looked to the girl and Silas. “Isn’t that right? We’re all going to cooperate?” Silas clenched his fists and answered. “Yes… We both will.” The girl quickly nodded. “Good, that’s good.” The man clasped his hands together and crossed his legs. “First, did you bring your wallet, Mr. Smith?” Silas stared down at the ground and produced a leather wallet. “Yes…” The man smirked. “10,000 please.” Silas sighed and reluctantly pulled out a stack of $100 bills that were packed into his wallet earlier. The man swiped the money from Silas’s hand and stuffed it into his pocket. Then, there was another moment of silence. But this time, even the girl was too scared to make a noise. The man stood up from the chair and drew a revolver from his waist. “One more thing.” Bang! Bang! Bang! The man shot at the ceiling. The girl screamed while Silas flinched and quietly sobbed. “If you tell anyone about what happened here this afternoon… you’ll both be killed.” The man aimed the gun at Silas with unshaken composure. “Clear?” Silas did not look up from the ground. “Clear… right Jennie?” The girl who was curled in a ball also refused to look up. “C-Clear…” The man returned his gun to its holster and held open the door. “Get out.” He smirked and glared at Silas as he and his daughter hurriedly left the warehouse. Once they both got to the car, they buckled their seatbelts and Silas drove them far away from the warehouse.
