He lives in a small city in his home country of Avalon. The city is called Maple, and it has a population of 100. It is very futuristic, educated, and peaceful. Everyone pretty much knows each other. Sorin had just graduated from college and was celebrating with friends and family. Afterward, he stumbled home and jumped on the computer in the living room. He started looking for jobs to pass the time and make money during the summer. Unfortunately, one of the bad things about living in a small city is that most families have worked the same jobs for generations, and work is hard to find. This was discouraging, so he gave up for the night and went to bed.The next morning, Sorin woke up to see an email that he had been chosen as the new security guard for a place called Nexus Hotel. He had never heard of this place before and never applied for this job, but he thought it sounded cool.
He kept reading: We formally invite you to become our new nighttime security guard. We believe you are perfect for the job. We would like you to come to our new location which appears to be right in your neck of the woods. The address is 2211 Maple Cross Highway #007.
Sorin quickly searched for this address using the Internet, and it gave him a destination of less than 10 minutes down the street, right off the highway. He thought to himself, There’snothing over there by that highway. It's only woods and open water for miles. There's no other city over there. They also claim I’m going to be getting paid 100 Crests an hour. They must be local if they pay in Crests, because that’s Avalon’s monetary system.
Sorin got in his hover car (Yanin) and drove down to the Praetorian Guard Tower. The Praetorian Guard Tower houses the most powerful practitioner of the Projection Method in the city. Since our days are usually peaceful now, citizens don’t really practice the Projection Method anymore.
Only the Praetorian Guard, Petros, practices and employs the Projection Method these days. Sorin and Petros grew up together and are best friends. Petros lives in the Guard tower, which has the ability to transport anyone within the city limits to or from the tower. However, this time Sorin wanted to drive his new hover car there, because he got it as a gift.
When he arrived at the bottom of the tower, his friend Petros teleported him up into the tower. The view from the top of the tower was amazing and overlooked the entire city. You could see the forestation and lakes for miles in every direction. Petros constantly patrols the city, keeping a watchful eye on every edge of its border. He’s the protector of Avalon, and he’s damn good at it. Nothing happens around here without him knowing about it.
Petros is a stoic guy and a man of few words. The world could be crashing around him, and he would remain calm. He is eighteen years old, 6’ tall, 200 pounds, with an athletic build. His complexion is light gray, and he has short hair that’s smokey gray.
When I walked in, Petros yelled, "Buddy, how do you like your new Yanin? It’s pretty nice, right?”
Sorin smiled because that was the birthday gift Petros gave to him.
Sorin said, “Thanks, you’re my dearest friend, but we have to talk about something.”
Petros’s expression became serious, "What happened?"
Sorin showed him the strange email he received about the job offer.
Petros became excited when he read the email, “Sorin, do you know what this is?” Petros didn’t wait for Sorin to respond.
“It’s the address that used to be the hidden outpost that C.E.L. used when they first organized against the Monolith,” Petros said.
Petros wrote down the address for the job and they both jumped into his Yanin and took off toward the address.
