Silent Part 2
Chapter 1
“Are you okay, bunny”?
Oakley woke up in the treehouse. She thought it might have just been a bad dream, but then she heard growls coming from below. She looked out the window and saw the same eyeless monsters. She freaked out and quickly backed away. She looked around the treehouse. She saw a tv, a bed, a box of snacks, a couch, and her gun laying on the ground. She grabbed it, ready to use it, in case she needed to. The growls slowly started to move away so she peaked, the creature scrambling away.
Oakley was really starting to process what was happening. Could it be that this really was the end of the world? Could it all just be one really bad dream? Whatever was happening was happening too fast. Oakley looked around, her eyes just wondering. She then heard someone climbing up the ladder. She grabbed the gun, hiding behind the bed. Just then a boy appeared. He looked about 6’1, brownish/black curly hair, with green eyes. He looked like he was 17, only a year older than Oakley.
He turned towards Oakley. She held her breath, hoping he wouldn’t see her.
“I can see your hair sticking up.” He said, like he wasn’t phased at someone being in the treehouse with him.
“What’s your name?” He asked.
“Oakley.” She replied.
“I’m Benji. Nice to meet you” He said.
Oakley looked confused, “You do realize I’m a complete stranger in your house? Wait, is this your house or tree house?”
“My foster parents home actually. But they gave me this tree house.”
Oakley nodded. “So is it okay if I’m here for a little while, at least till I can figure out what’s wrong with the world right now.”
“I’m pretty sure the apocalypse is happening.” Benji said.
“And why are you so calm about all of this?” Oakley replied.
“Well for one, I get to do whatever I want. And two, the zombies don’t infect teenagers or kids. It seems to only be the adults.”
“And what happens when the teenagers become adults?” Oakley asked.
“Only one way to find out. And that’s if I get eaten when I turn 18.” Benji said.
“But how are you so calm with this?” She asked
“ I don’t know. I guess I’ve just kind of gone with life's destiny now. Anyway, wanna go and bonk some zombies with bats?”
“Haha, sure.” Oakley smiled.
Chapter 2
“I think I like you.”
It’s been a couple of days since Oakley met Benji, but with how much he knew her already, you would think they had been friends for years. Oakley and Benji had just gotten back from raiding a store. Benji turned on the tv. Oakley sat down beside him on the couch. They grabbed some popcorn and turned on the DVD player.
“What movie do you want to watch today?” Benji asked.
“Hm, how about the princess and the frog.” Oakley said.
“That one again? Okay fine, but no singing again please.” Benji chuckled.
“Deal.” Oakley agreed, with a scrunched cute grin on her face.
Benji blushed and turned towards the tv. Oakley noticed his slight fluster and slightly grinned. She turned towards the tv and started watching the movie with him. About 30 minutes into the movie, Oakley started to feel tired. Her head unbalanced slightly and eventually laid onto Benji's shoulder. When it happened, he was completely flustered, though he didn’t fight it. He took one of the blankets and covered her up. He smiled and relaxed. His head eventually felt heavy, so he laid his head on hers.
By the time Oakley woke up, Benji was gone. She looked over to her left, she saw a note that said “Oakley”. She opened it and it was from Benji. She read it,
(Hey Oakley, you finally woke up huh? Anyways, I went to fill up the gas and grab breakfast. I didn’t want to wake you up. You look so peaceful when you sleep. Has anyone ever told you that you talk in your sleep? Because I found out some pretty interesting things about you. For one, there’s a dog named Kiko. Sounds adorable. But, you also kinda confessed something. About how you feel about me. You said, “I think I like you, Benji.”
Chapter 3
“Maybe I like you too.”
Oakley, embarressed, heard Benji coming back up the ladder. She pretended to still be asleep, her head facing the couch, away from Benji. Benji turned her face towards his. That made her even more flushed. He smiled looking at her peaceful expression.
She pretended to wake up and acted like she read the note as soon as she got up.
“I want you to know that I have been hiding something from you also.” Benji finally said.
“Oh God, am I going to like this secret?” Oakley asked.
“Oh yeah, for sure.” Benji replied. “I like you Oakley, like a lot. I should have told you sooner but, I thought it might have been to early considering we only met a few days ago.” He said.
“Yeah but I didn’t want you to hear it from in my sleep. I kinda wanted to tell you myself.” Oakley responded.
“It’s okay. I kinda figured I would have to tell you sooner or later.” Benji chuckled.
