"Poor people will be able to use doctors just like everyone else who has "insurance", instead of the ER, and yes, the expense will just be added to their debt that they will never be able to pay off. However, they can make small monthly payments, limited by their income, towards that debt, which effectively is like paying for insurance, but at a rate proportional to their income.
A doctor I know told me one problem with the cost of health care is that the prices for treatment are not published. Price transparency would be a requirement in this system - why should hospitals and doctors be exempt from price competition?"
