A 12-year-old sixth grader tragically died after choking on a doughnut in a hallway at Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School in Yonkers, New York, on June 10, 2026. Staff members immediately rendered first aid, and first responders rushed him to a local hospital, but he could not be saved. Police are actively investigating the tragic incident, including whether a viral social media trend may have played a role.

While watching the 11 o'clock news 6/10/2026 the reporter reported a child choked and died in school. Emergency services tried to revive him but the responders were unsuccessfully.

ANY TIME A CHILD IS CHOKING IT MAY NOT BE CAUSED BY A BLOCKAGE TO THE WIND PIPE

IT MAY BE A SUDDEN ONSET ALLERGIC REACTION

AN ALLERGIC REACTION MY BE THE CAUSE OF THE THROAT CLOSURE.

ADMINISTER AN EPI PEN

I asked Google, 'Can more than one dose Epinephrine (Epi Pen) be given.?

The answer:

Yes, a second dose of an EpiPen (or other epinephrine auto-injector) can be given. In fact, many individuals with severe allergies require more than one dose because anaphylactic symptoms can persist or return.

THEN PREFORM CPR (better yet) OR USE MECHANICAL CPR

MECHANICAL CPR devices are automated tools used by EMS and hospital teams to deliver continuous, high-quality chest compressions during cardiac arrest. While manual compressions remain the standard, these machines are utilized to maintain perfect compression rate and depth without provider fatigue, and to free up hands for other critical procedures. How They Work Mechanism: The devices use pneumatic pistons, suction cups, or load-distributing bands to compress the patient's chest.

Guidelines: The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends against their routine use. However, they are strongly recommended in specialized situations where delivering high-quality manual compressions is difficult or dangerous.Key Benefit: They allow first responders to perform life-saving tasks (like administering medications, defibrillating, or securing an airway) without having to stop CPR.

Supplemental Oxygen maybe better than human breathes in severe cases ( Renika Boyette opinions and options)

Oxygen is frequently used with mechanical CPR devices. While the mechanical machine takes over chest compressions, responders still provide artificial ventilation (breaths) using a bag-valve-mask (BVM) or advanced airway attached to a supplemental oxygen source. [1, 2, 3, 4]Supplemental oxygen is used with mechanical CPR in several ways: [1]

High-Flow Oxygen Delivery: Rescuers generally administer the highest feasible concentration of oxygen (approaching 100%) during the ventilation phase of CPR to maximize blood oxygenation. [1, 2]

Mechanical Ventilators: In many hospital and advanced paramedic settings, the patient is intubated and connected to a mechanical ventilator that automatically delivers these oxygen-rich breaths in sync with the compressions. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Gas-Powered Devices: Some specific brands of mechanical CPR devices (like older piston-based models) are literally powered by compressed oxygen rather than electricity or batteries. [1, 2]

In the United States, an average of 140 to 180 children die from choking every year. Choking is one of the leading causes of unintentional injury and death for children, especially those aged 3 or younger, with the majority of victims being infants. [1, 2, 3, 4]

These lifes were accidentally cut short. I ask are we doing enough during an emergency such as choking? Do we have knowledge, or enough knowledge, to know when this device is needed, in exchange for "human" "mechanics", CPR response. My answer is I don't know. I know in this case Mechanical CPR machines were made as a life saving alternative, "which" is proof human emergency response (in the case of manual CPR) is NOT ENOUGH, especially in severe cases.

[1]March 2026 (Las Vegas, NV): An 8-year-old boy died from anoxic brain injury after choking on a piece of pineapple during lunchtime at John Bass Elementary School, leading to a lawsuit against the Clark County School District regarding the staff's response.
