1849 Harriet Tubman escapes slavery for last time.

Her husband did not leave but she did. She left him and her children behind. LINK 1

1876 The first crematorium begins.

Julius Lemoyne created the first machine. It was to speed up the decaying process and take care of the dead. Although it took 4 days for the machine to heat up and cool down, the cremation itself took only 4 hours. As expected, the was not a popular idea at first.

1907 Coal Mine Explosion in West Virginia

Two separate, yet close in timing explosions blocked the entrance to the mine. At this time there were many workers there, many young. Not only was the entrance blocked the ventilation was destroyed. This left the miners trapped with toxic gasses. Some miners died from the blast, others died from the toxic gasses. Over 350 miners were killed. LINK 3

1964 "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" TV Premier.

If you like Christmas Movies, it's likely you know of an have even seen the original Rudolph. He started off as a poem in the 1930s, followed by a song in the 1940s. In the 1960s television wanted wo have more family friendly holiday specials. Thus NBC created the Rudolph we all know and love. LINK 4
