They tell me the machine can take me anywhere. The world is breathing its last breaths, and technology is all that is left. Where is it one can go when there is nothing left? When the collapse hits, all will be done, including me. As far as I know, I am the last person on Earth. When I looked at the prompt 'What I wanted to see,' I could only think of one thing. A long walk on the lakeshore with Samantha, hand in hand...that would be lovely. But Samantha is gone, just like everyone else. The room began to tremble as the end approached. I tapped the keys on the consul, closed my eyes, and waited. The chimes sang as the systems indicated my arrival. I opened my eyes and saw the lakeside scene. Serene. Beautiful. Calm. You would never know that humankind is over. Enclosed in the observation bubble, I couldn’t feel or sense the scene; all I could do was see. I couldn’t help but cry as the tears ran down my face. “So beautiful,” I whispered. “This must be what heaven looks like.” Smoked filled the bubble as the flames approached. The end was swift, I barely felt it. All I could feel was that moment of escape before the end.#TellingStories#StorytellerJourney #DailyStorytelling#CreativeChronicles #ShortStoryMagic#WritersOfInstagram #StorytellerVibes#NarrativeInspiration #StorytellerLife#InspireThroughStories #StorytimeEveryday#ThePowerOfStories #WritingCommunity#FictionalEscape #UnfoldingStories
