I was outside staring at the moon. It was a nice shade of blue and gray, my two favorite colors. The moon reminded me of how peaceful my life used to be. I sat there on the porch stairs a little longer than I intended. I was supposed to be helping my little brother with his homework. I should go do that before my mom complains, I thought. I got off the stairs and walked inside, I turned to lock the door and there she was.

“Why are you coming in so late,” my mom said with her hands on her hips

“I was just on the step thinking,” I said walking past her

“Well right now isn't the time, get in there with your brother” she said raising her voice

“You don’t have to yell mom, I do what you tell me to do everyday and you still yell,” I rolled my eyes

“Don't talk back, you know better” she raised her hand ready to hit me

I walked away before she could do anything “Whatever” I whispered under my breath, I did know better.

“Me and your father are leaving now, you better not go anywhere” she said following behind

“Ok, I love you” I said

“I’m sure” she said grabbing my fathers hand and pulling him out the door

“Bye lovebug” my father said before he was completely gone

I truly loved that man. I loved my mother too but it was so hard to do continuously. I walked into the living room to see my little brother Kyrie watching TV.

“Hey little buddy, what are you watching” I said sitting down next to him

“This boring show, it's not even funny” he pouted and I laughed

“Well let's get to doing your homework so you can go to sleep” I turned the TV off

“Thank you for helping me with my homework, mom never helps me she’s mean”

“I know, but dad helps us all the time”

“Yesterday mom yelled at me for not cleaning up her water” he leaned into my shoulder

“It’s ok, I will always be here for you ok?”

“Ok, I have to go get my homework from upstairs” he said and jogged away.

I truly loved my brother, I was the only one who is ever really there for him. Of course my father is but he still works a lot. I waited for a while for Kyrie but he never came back downstairs. It’s been 30 minutes. Hopefully he didn't fall asleep. He has to get his homework done.

I got up from the couch and started to call his name.

“Kyrie!” I called out, I didn't get an answer, i'm sure he’s in his room

I searched downstairs first and made my way up, he was nowhere to be found.

“Kyrie!” I yelled again walking upstairs, still no answer

I walked into his room and he wasn't there. That's when I started to panic. I walked into my room thinking he’s in there. I searched under the bed, in the closet, even behind the curtain. My little brother wasn't there. I walked back into his room, maybe I had missed something. I searched under his bed again, in his closet and under his dresser. Still not there. I walked to my parents room and searched everywhere in there. I looked in the bathrooms, I looked downstairs again, in the closets and other hiding places he had. I even looked in the kitchen cabinets.

Words could not describe how terrified I was.

“I lost him,” I whispered.

I called my mother and father multiple times, there was no answer. Maybe they don’t have any internet, they didn't even tell me where they were going. I walked past the kitchen again and there was something I hadn't noticed before on the refrigerator. That was impossible, I walked past this kitchen so many times and didnt see anything. I walked to the fridge and saw a note.

“Come get him” it said in big red letters. There was an address printed at the bottom of the page

I ran up to my room and grabbed my phone off my dresser. I dialed 911 with shaky fingers thinking I would never see my brother again.

“911 what is your emergency”

“I lost my little brother, I looked everywhere” I said hearing a tremble in my voice

A few minutes later the police came knocking at the door. I opened it with tears running down my face. I knew it was all too real. They asked a bunch of questions and looked around the house for any clues. I was a little frustrated because Iv'e already done that. Once they were finished searching around I showed them the note that was left, they wrote the address down and proceeded to leave.

"Wait!" I yelled stopping one lady detective

"Yes?" she asked

"How long will it take to find him"

"I'm sorry to tell you but I'm unsure. This could take days" she said

I whispered an "ok" and she proceeded to leave.

I need to find my brother. It was bad enough that my parents weren't answering. I quickly called my mother, still no answer.

I called my friend, Damitri, and he picked up immediately.

“Hey,” he says.

I cried so hard my chest started to heave

“On my way” he says with no hesitation.

He shows up moments later and I fall into his arms once I open the door.

“What happened” he asked

I told him everything and showed him the note.

"What the hell, what are the police doing?" he said jumping up from the couch

"Absolutely nothing, It's going to take them a while to find him"

“Fuck that, lets go get your brother” he said

I ran to my bedroom to put my shoes on. I grabbed my coat, phone, and keys and ran back downstairs. I grabbed the note off of the coffee table and ran to Damitri's car.

I hopped into the passenger seat and we pulled out of my drive way. The address on the paper led us to an old red warehouse. It had spider webs draping the side of the building and rust up the rails on the stairs.

"Are you ready for this?" Damitri said

"More then ever"

"Just know I love you"

"I love you too" I smiled

"Lets go inside"

“I’ll go in alone, you stay and call the police” I said getting out of the car

I walked into the warehouse, scared out of my mind. I continued to walk down the hall, that's when I saw a figure in heels.

The figure turns, my heart leaps out of my chest.

“Hello dear” my mother says

“Whats going on” I say

“Nothing, I’m glad you came”

“You're the one who wrote the note?”

“You caught me,” she smiled.

“Where is he” my eyes watered

“You don’t want to know” my mom whispered

“Why do all of this”

“It was the right time” she shrugged

I can't believe this right now.

“Give him back”

“No, It’s his time, I have to get rid of him”

“Why? What are you planning to do?”

“I’d have to kill you if I told you”

“You’re crazy”

“Your father agrees”

“Where is dad”

“He’s dead, I chopped him up” she smiled

“You’re a maniac”

“Boo hoo” she sighed “I’m going to the back”

“What are you doing in the back Miranda”

“We’re on a first name basis now?” She laughed “I’m going to kill him” she grabbed a saw sitting near the wall

“NO!” I leaped towards her

I was so scared, sweat was dripping down my finger tips. I could have sworn she could hear my heart beat, thats how loud it was pounding.

“Yes” she says as she walked past bumping into me.

I winced as the saw cut my arm “I’m going to tie you up to watch me kill him, then snap every bone in your body” She said dragging me to a room

“Why?”

“Oh my god! You're so irritating. All you do is ask a bunch of damn questions. I don’t want you anymore, I told your father I didn't want kids. Here you are. I told him I'd kill all of you one day” my face fell “he never believed me”

She threw me against the wall, as we entered one of the dirty rooms. I saw my little Kyrie unconscious sitting up in the corner of the room.

“I loved you” I whispered to my mother

“I loved you too, but sometimes love fades, this is a love that faded a long time ago”

I couldn't get any words out before she ran and slit Kyrie's throat. I watched as my brother's limb body fell to the ground. I yelled so loud my eardrums burst.

I kicked her and grabbed the saw, I cut her leg. The blood started to pour from her leg and she ran. It wouldn't be too long before the police got to her.

I crawled over to Kyrie

“I lost him” I whispered

I picked him up and laid him onto my lap. My little brother bled out in my arms.

The police walked in with her in handcuffs. I sat there still, dazed, how could someone kill their own child. I now realize, my thoughts were true. I would never see my 6 year old brother again.

My brother would never know how much I loved him and how much his mother didn't. But maybe that’s a good thing.
