The Chosen: A Woman's Point of View
The Chosen has taken the Christian media world by storm as the first multi-season TV series chronicling the life of Jesus Christ in first century Judea. Dallas Jenkins is the creator, director, and co-writer of the series, newly produced by his very own 5&2 studios.
Season 1 was released in 2019 and season 5 was released in the fall of 2025, while the sixth season has recently wrapped filming and the final, seventh season will wrap up our journey through the Gospels with the Resurrection.
While most other Bible projects of the same kind take more of a Scripture-by-Scripture approach, the multi-season series format gives the writers room to explore and expand upon relationships and ideas that are Scripturally left vague or absent altogether. For example, the Bible doesn't say that Little James has a limp but since Jordan Walker Ross, the actor playing him in The Chosen does have one, that detail was written into the show and that trait naturally affects how Jordan Walker Ross as Little James interacts with the others.
These little details do not add to Scripture. But they do provide opportunities for us as the audience to identify with the characters and be comforted by Jesus' response to our shortcomings.
