A Day in my Mental Health Counseling in Chicago.

A Day in the Big House Treatment Management
A long drive to the edge of Chicago/ becoming a bad Neighborhood starting.
Enter the main entrance & immediately hit by patients wanting to discuss current Medications or Room locations or Nurses treatments etc.
After making it the Counselor/ Manager’s Office was time for Group Schedules & Who was going to be in again. Had to get my fresh Paperwork ready for Group!
Sitting at the big Table on every Smoke filled Reck Room, Group Sessions ran for over an hour with 8 Patients- if I did not have to drag Patients up to the Session, then longer as I had to bring Patients to the session hoping others would not also decide to bail early as well.
After the groups sessions are over the few 1 on 1’s for Temporary or getting out soon time.
After that the day started on Charting won’t be finished by the end of the day but Job requires plenty of down time.
Each month we get together with a Staff & outside Psychometrist =to review Progress Notes. I learned early not to update Progress Notes accurately as stating a bit better will keep up better Funding. So after my first 55 Progress Notes were turned in I had to redo All to show minimal progress.
Except! Now this was very Graphic…
My day in Mental Health was over- So I Thought! As walking out the Door Front Desk called out to me for new Patient just came in & I just said park him in a Bed & I’ll meet him next day.
Nope! I’ll never know how he did it but he got the screws out of the Window Blocks & too Sidewalk with his Head, shattering a Fist size Skull Bone break off & on the Curb covered in Hair, Skin & Brain Matter & Blood.
When I got close, I was amazed this guy was still in one piece & moving & turning his Neck. He was still talking then for the next 20 Minutes- He just kept saying “I finally got it Right”. This was the first time I saw Brains are Gray not Yellow.
Ambulance took 45 Minutes to come 5 Blocks. By then my Pants, Socks & Shoes were covered in Brain Matter so took them off before getting back into my Car to go home.
Another Crazy Day in Treatment Land!
The higher your Education & Skills the more difficulties you get to solve.
Later all Staff were surprised with the Facility Closing soon as Government Funding stopped.
Also a Crack House opened in the next Block over with Gang Members & Automatic Weapons so it really was time to quit.
