Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Tommy. Tommy was six years old, and he had something very important to tell everyone.

"I'm a BIG KID NOW!!" he shouted every morning.

He didn't want anyone helping him get dressed. He wanted to pour his own cereal, tie his own shoes, and pick out his own clothes. One morning, Tommy's mom smiled an said,

"Well, if you're such a big kid, let's see what you can do!"

Tommy stood up proudly.

"I can do EVERYTHING!" Tommy shouted

"Everything?" Mommy giggled

"EVERYTHING" Tommy shouted again

The next morning. Tommy decided he would make his own breakfast. He went into the kitchen straight to the cabinet. He grabbed a bowl, poured fruit pebbles with the marshmallow. Tommy turned around to go into the fridge, he grabbed the milk and an started pouring it.

SPLASH

Most of the milk missed the bowl. Milk went everywhere. Tommy looked at the mess and frowned.

"I'm not a big kid after all" he whispered sadly

Mommy came into the kitchen

"Tommy,do you know what makes someone a big kid?"

Tommy shook his head no.

"It's not about doing everything perfectly. It's about trying again, learning, and asking for help when you need it."

Tommy smile

"Even big kids ask for help?"

"Of course!" Mom said

Later that day at school, Tommy saw a little girl crying because she couldn't find her favorite teddy bear. Tommy walked over.

"Don't cry. I'll help you find it!"

They looked under the tables, behind the books, and even inside the toy box. Finally after looking everywhere, Tommy found it behind a chair.

"You found him!" the little girl shouted

Tommy felt warm and happy inside. His teacher smiled

"Tommy, that was a vary big-kid thing to do."

Tommy grinned.

Later on that night Tommy climbed into his bed. He thought about everything he had done that day. He spilled milk. He needs help. He helped someone else. And he learned something new.

mommy came in to tuck him in and said

"Remember, sweetheart, you don't have to hurry to grow up. I enjoy being little, too"

Tommy gave her a big hug.

"I think being a big kid is pretty great!"

Mommy kissed his forehead.

"And you're doing a great job!"
