As pale moonlight caressed the small hometown of Ash Agni, the young woman took a shuddering breath, her lungs contracting as tears silently left trails on her face. She found herself sitting in her favorite spot. The cool summer breeze making her auburn hair wave around her face as she sat upon the rock she had spent most of her time on.

She knew that her heart was made up, her life had only gone downhill in the last year. After everything that happened with Brooke, she had given up any hope that everything would be okay

in the end.

Brooke had left the town on July 21.

Ash shook her head, looking up to the sky as more tears fell from her green eyes.

Today, this day exactly one year ago.

Brooke was everything to Ash. They were inseparable as children, leaning on each other for comfort every time something went wrong.

Ash knew that Brooke was dead. The other wouldn’t leave her alone. Not after what they went through. The only thing Ash has from Brooke now is the necklace she gave her the day before she disappeared.

A shooting star.

Ash laughed to herself, it turning into sobs as she curled up on the rock that was their meeting place. She didn’t want to be in this world anymore. The pain to much to bare on her own.

Ash stayed on the rock for what felt like eternity, her only company being her suffocating grief.

Memories of her life flashed before her eyes, every single one being filled with memories of Brooke. The laughter, the sadness, and the anger. The good and the bad moments swirled in her mind as her tears slowly came to a stop.

Ash felt a sense of calm was over her as she looked up at the stars. Brooke always called her a shooting star, because to Brooke, Ash was the luckiest thing to happen to her.

She raised a trembling hand to her chest, feeling the cool metal of the necklace that had once belonged to Brooke. The weight of it pressed against her skin, a reminder of the bond they had shared and the love that had sustained them through countless trials and tribulations.

Closing her eyes, Ash let herself drift back to that fateful day when Brooke had vanished from their lives. The memories came unbidden, each one a dagger to her already wounded heart.

Ash was tired, tired of existing in the world that she was stuck in. She stood up quickly, almost falling over in her haste to get down from the rock.

The night seemed to hug her tightly as Ash stumbled through the familiar paths, the moonlight casting eerie shadows around her. The wind whispered through the trees, carrying with it a sense of foreboding that matched the heaviness in Ash's chest.

She walked slowly to the beach, the wave gently lapping at the sand in front of her as she slowly came to a stop. Ash had felt like someone was watching her, but a look around showed her that paranoia took root in her soul.

She gripped the necklace around her neck, a genuine smile coming onto her face for the first time in a year. The spark she had was gone, taken with Brooke when she disappeared.

As the waves continued to kiss the shore, Ash closed her eyes and took a deep breath, letting the salty air fill her lungs. She could almost hear Brooke's voice in the rustling of the leaves and the distant cry of seagulls. It was a bittersweet symphony that enveloped her in a cocoon of memories.

The necklace that hung around her neck felt warm against her skin, a comforting weight that anchored her to the past. With trembling fingers, she traced the intricate design of the pendant, each groove and curve reminding her of Brooke's gentle touch.

Letting her hand fall to her side, Ash slowly walked into the water , her feet and clothes becoming wet instantly. She didn’t stop, her body slowly getting wetter and wetter as she moved farther into the water.

The cool water embraced Ash, enveloping her in its icy embrace as she waded deeper into the dark, churning waves. The sensation of the salty sea against her skin was both comforting and chilling, a stark reminder of the vast and unforgiving nature of the world around her.

As the water rose higher and higher, Ash felt a strange sense of peace wash over her, mingling with the crushing weight of grief that had plagued her for so long. She closed her eyes and let herself be carried away by the ebb and flow of the tide, each wave a gentle caress that whispered promises of release.

In the final moments of her life, Ash could feel her heart beating wildly in her chest, the rhythm of it echoing the cadence of the waves that surrounded her. The ocean's beauty was a stark contrast to the pain that had consumed her for so long.

As the cold water continued to rise, washing away her fears and regrets, Ash felt a sense of serenity wash over her. She had held onto her love for Brooke with every ounce of her being, knowing that the bond they shared would endure even in her final moments.

With a final, resigned breath, Ash let herself be taken by the relentless pull of the water, her body carried away by the same force that had shaped the world around her. And as the waves closed over her, the necklace with the shooting star pendant glinted in the moonlight, a testament to the enduring bond between two souls that could never be broken.

The shooting star pendant, now submerged in the water, was a symbol of hope and resilience that Ash had held onto. It had been their shared secret, the emblem of their unbreakable bond. A bond that had transcended time and space, and now, in the midst of the powerful ocean, it continued to guide her.

The pendent gave one last shine before dimming as Ash finally got what she wanted.

As Ash’s body sunk into the water, her mind finally calmed, knowing that she would be with Brooke once again.

Forever.
