The Recesses of A Contemplating Heart
The journey through my heart
is anything but mellow,
no quiet comforts,
only deep bellows.
I have lost too much,
lived too little,
regretted everything
and nothing at all.
I’ve made good money,
and mishandled bad money.
I’ve given away too much,
and held on too tightly.
I’ve traveled many places,
yet gone nowhere at all.
I’ve been lifted high,
and dropped low.
I have known love,
and harbored hate.
I’ve been gifted motherhood,
and with it, sorrow.
I’ve lived in the past,
more than in today,
dreamed of the future,
while yesterday kept me.
I’ve reflected on who I want to be,
who I’ve become,
who I pretend to be,
and finally— who I truly am.
And I’ve concluded,
that everything in life,
has purpose,
from the worst to the best.
Every lesson,
every test,
there is no failing,
no passing grade.
There is only another day
to live, to love, to dance,
to do better, and give life a chance.
