Boundaries
I think when you lose your boundaries you lose parts of yourself
There are missing shards in the mirror
And not enough water for a puddle of reflection
Do the droplets hit your skin when it rains?
Do you feel it dig through your fingertips when it snows?
Or is your body encompassed with the memory
Of others
Other hands, mouths, tongues
Is that all you can feel, when it's all you do?
Let people who are not you choose for you
People who do not know you
Let alone care about you
Do
What
They
Want
To
You.
Is it a ritual you find yourself to be the sacrifice in?
What God would be pleased with fragile meat like yourself?
You have always been hunted by wolves
And it will stay that way
Because you will not change
Dare to stand up. You can’t.
Your legs scramble together
Like sticks to start a fire
Burning, engulfing, and consuming your entire being.
To submit, even when you don’t want to.
Submit, even if that sick thrill they promise never comes
Submit, because that is all you know
That is the only thing that makes this real
And if this isn’t it,
What is?
Questions are no good.
They rattle the brain and strangle the heart
Why is it harder to breathe
Without someone's foot on your neck?
Are you too used to it now?
Do you feel safer with a hand cradled around your throat?
Threatening to tighten
Each blood riddled vein if even a sound
Comes out of you
Is it home?
On the inside. Yes.
Of course it is.
It is the wood crackling in the fireplace
It is a fridge and pantry full of food
It is your pillow, cold, on both sides
You are home now.
No one ever really leaves home.
Your defense is guarded up
For all the wrong reasons
“They didn’t mean it” Did they?
“I was asking for it” Were you?
“You’re reading too much into it”
Oh. And you’re not?
The paint on your fence is peeling
Chipping away, slowly, carefully
Like what you do to your lips
When your nervous and think no one is watching
They know, that you know, that they know
Stop looking and start listening
To the branches that break when you try to run
To the leaves that rustle with each step
To the sound of my voice
Because I am predator
And you are prey
But you made me do this
So despite everything
You believe and trust
And bow down to me as the victim
Not the other way around
How can I harm someone who was never really there?
When you lose your boundaries
You lose yourself
