Ethyl would have screamed as the knife slashed her throat except that her voice was long since ravaged from prolonged shrieking. She felt the hot blood gush from the gaping wound across her throat and then she felt nothing. Her soul released, freed from her mortal remains. As a medium, Ethyl had known to expect this. All of her spirit guides had told her about their own deaths. Therefore, she knew what would come next. She would see a psychopomp and she would travel to the afterlife. She might even see a bright light. Several of the spirits she'd spoken with had said something about there being a bright light.
