To truly understand the joy and gratitude we feel, you have to know where we started. I was naturally a selfish person without her but when we met in 2008 our souls mated and I was transformed into a better man.

The first piece I want to share is a raw look at the moment our lives changed from her own perspective. It’s titled "Her World" and when I read it it reminds me that even when we both individually thought we were walking toward destruction, the universe was already preparing our shared path.

So without ado...

“Her World”

Step into my chamber of horrors,

As I tell you some of my sorrows.

Hear the truth of an innocent girl,

And what it was to live in her world.

The abuse she suffered as a child,

And all the years she just ran wild.

Searching for love that could not be found,

Her circle of pain spun round and round.

Bad relationships and trips to prison,

Resulting from her bad decisions.

Chasing her dragon that she called love,

Praying for miracles from up above.

But after conquering so many evils,

And battling constant upheavals.

Down from the heavens as if by his hand,

It was given to her the perfect man.

He was sweet and kind, good-looking too,

For her there was nothing he wouldn’t do.

One day he asked if she’d be his wife,

Now she’ll be loved for the rest of her life.

In reflection, reading "Her World" always takes me back to the darkness we both left behind. It’s a painful but necessary reminder that we weren't just two people who met and fell in love; we were two people who saved each other from the brink of darkness.

Michele's words paint a clear picture of the struggle she faced, and the love she found was the miracle she prayed for in that chaos. But what she may not have known is that her presence was my miracle, too. She didn't just transform her own world; by loving me, she reached into the heart of a selfish man and fundamentally transformed mine.

Her poetry isn't just a record of our love; it’s a living testament to the fact that no matter how far gone you think you are, light, grace, and redemption are always possible. It is a true blessing—a mega-double blessing, as I like to call it—where God used us, individually, to transform the other.
