Hip Hop Story Update

I want to share an update regarding a project I’ve been developing over the past while. After extensive reflection, I’ve decided to step back from the hip hop–related narrative I was working on. This decision comes from a place of respect for the culture and a recognition of the responsibility that comes with telling stories rooted in a movement with deep lineage, lived experience, and generational stewardship. My goal has always been to approach hip hop with care, accuracy, and integrity, and stepping aside is the most honest way to honour that intention.

Throughout this process, I’ve gained an even greater appreciation for the artists, historians, educators, and cultural guardians who continue to shape hip hop’s legacy. Their voices and lived realities are essential to telling its story with authenticity. My decision is not the result of conflict, pressure, or controversy. It is simply an acknowledgment that this particular narrative deserves to be led by those whose connection to the culture runs deeper than my own.

I remain a supporter and admirer of hip hop and the communities that sustain it. My respect for the culture is unchanged, and I will continue to celebrate the creators who move it forward. At the same time, I recognize the importance of focusing my creative energy on projects that align more closely with my own background, identity, and artistic voice.

With that in mind, I’m excited to share that my primary creative focus moving forward will be Chaplin: The Musical, an original theatrical work exploring the life, artistry, and emotional world of Charlie Chaplin. This project reflects my own artistic sensibilities and allows me to build something that feels authentic to who I am as a writer and creator. I’m deeply inspired by Chaplin’s legacy and the opportunity to bring his story to the stage in a fresh, imaginative way.

Thank you to everyone who showed interest in the hip hop project and offered encouragement along the way. I’m grateful for the support, and I look forward to sharing new work that reflects my voice, my passions, and my creative direction. This is not an ending — it’s a thoughtful redirection toward the stories I’m meant to tell. Much love and respect to the culture, and to everyone who keeps its spirit alive.
