Practice Mindfulness
Capturing life's smaller moments sometimes acts as its own reminder to put down the phone. Remember when your child begged you to watch her do a cute pose or something silly? That moment only lasted a second before she was able to do her own hair and grab herself cereal. You blink and it is gone forever. You think back and rush to your phone for that silly video... what really matters isn't the video, but being in the moment with your child. She will remember when you put down the phone and ignored that email to watch her recite some silly poem or do a new trick.
That moment comes in all of our lives, whether we have a child or not. The moment could be a butterfly passing on the wind or a jet engine taking off from a runway. Those moments flash by and are gone, but the memories of those moments remain. It is our job to remind ourselves to take a break from the pull of a screen and enjoy the fleeting moments. Mindfulness comes in all forms but the most grounding form is achieved by quieting your mind, listening to the surrounding noises of the world, and taking a breath. What are you doing in this very moment (besides reading my blog)? Are you eating? Are you watching a funny reel or TikTok? Are you thoughtlessly doom scrolling on that phone? What keeps you from engaging in mindfulness?
Are you a busy bee? Are you a workaholic? Do you suffer from attention issues where everything is going all at once?
Take some time to really focus on the small things.

Making a small change can really help you hone in on the depth of being mindful. Keep going. You can do it! I believe that making small changes to your daily routine can help in so many ways.
Put down the phone and truly gather your thoughts. Quiet your mind and let those senses settle. I sometimes count aloud or in my mind to 10 over and over. Hyper focused breathing in tune to the rhythm of counting helps me quiet my mind and tune into my body.
