Terraforming

As the environment on our native planet began to change, we took notice.
We realized that eventually, our planet would no longer be able to sustain life as we know it. Our science showed that though life would always continue to thrive, our lives would be snuffed out unless we did something drastic.
We developed a technology that enabled us to convert another similar planet to be completely habitable to us. We found a planet that was similar enough; the new planet’s trips around its star were much shorter than our own years, but we could get used to that. The day/night cycle would occur a few times during a typical lunch break, and our lives would be many billions of years on this new planet, but adjusting our measurement of time seemed trivial compared to the looming extinction of our entire species. Also, this difference in orbital speed would be important to the timely success of our project.
So it was; just over 4 billion Earth years ago, we sent this terraforming technology to our new home. The entire program was contained within a single cluster of cells, a sort of planetary zygote if you will. It was really brilliant; the cells would grow and change, adapting to thrive in the environment on this planet. After a while, they would start producing the climate that we need to thrive. As the climate reached perfection, the changes would cause this bio-technology to die off, and we would arrive at a successfully terraformed planet; a planet that was perfect for us, empty, and ready to be our new home.
It worked wonderfully, and the project is almost complete, just in time for us to abandon our own, dying planet.
The Earth is almost ready; the levels of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and methane are almost perfect for us, and the oxygen gas levels are finally reaching non-lethal amounts. The average temperature is also on track to perfectly resemble our home planet.
Our ship will be arriving very soon. In just few hundred more Earth years, we will reach what is scheduled to be a perfect Earth for us to continue our species.
I hope we never forget how we caused Zenderii to become uninhabitable for us; it would be so sad and foolish for us to repeat our mistakes.
