The rain hadn’t stopped in three days. And neither had my exhaustion. It bled through me like cold water soaking cheap shoes—the kind I’d bought secondhand two winters ago and couldn’t afford to replace. The soles slapped against the wet pavement as I walked the long block home, the wind slicing through my coat like it was tissue paper. It had lost its lining years ago. By now, my fingers were stiff,
