Rousey v Carano, as much of a disappointment as the Tyson v Walker fight.
The Rousey v Carano fight was 100% staged. Gina Carano charged right into Rhonda Rousey's take-down move. The same move that Rousey's done throughout the majority of her career, and it was just sad.
Let's look at the factors that made this happen:
First, Carano had too much cosmetic surgery to want to throw down with anybody. As sure as her duck lips never formed a frown, and her soft skin was nice and smooth, for a 44yr old.
Second, Rousey needed to win this fight for the financial gain. She's openly admitted that she wants to focus on making herself a family, the money from this promotion could set her straight into making that happen.
Speaking of the money, there were online betting odds posted for every fight, including the odds on Rousey winning by way of submission. It would be a safe bet, given Rousey's notorious Judo abilities, but with the odds lowered into the negative, it would mean virtually zero prize money, in return.
So, guess who the actual winners are:
Well obviously, The House, they'll always win in the betting world. Then there are the ones who get their cut(s), in this case Paul Walker, everyone invested in MVP mma, and the contenders themselves, Rousey and Carano. They did a big hype scheme and it worked!
We all finally got to see these in the ring, just not the way we wanted to see them. No, they plotted and planned this scheme and took us for a ride. Now, they're at home reeling in the profits, counting their money. With a flip side to this, being that although they made a big score, they also disappointed all of us who wanted to know, which woman contender was better. Which one of them would actually take the title. But that's not what we got from them, instead, we got two women that wanted to bow out of the field, their way.
So, where do we go from here?
We've one of two choices: Seeing as how MMA is now an industry that blends with politics and other social agendas, it's safe to think that we don't need it, anymore. At least, not the mainstream fights. Amateur levels of MMA fights, however.... :) Because if we really think about it, what good has the mainstream gotten? It's nothing but sh1t talking, and reality tv, these days. There's more drama than anything to these fights, to where it's more about the hype of the fight , as opposed to the fights, themselves. So, if we really think about it, what's the point?
The other thing we can do accept that certain MMA productions are going to be hyped up, with drama before the matches, and other productions aren't. PLUS, there's no certainty that all productions will or will not cave in to the hype promotions, every now and then.
But it seems that we, the fans of the sport, were to follow the fights, based on what mood we're in, drama/no drama, then we'd be influencing the productions of MMA, and we'd be less duped into believing every hyped fight is the turn of the century, fight.
Whatever the case, one thing is for sure, these hyped up promos are leading to very disappointing fights, these days.
Thank you for your time.
