Summer’s not forever

In the warmth of days that bled too bright,
You promised me love, but it felt like flight.
The sun cast shadows on your golden smile,
But every moment with you, I’d wait a while.
You danced around my hope like a fleeting dream,
Saying we were perfect, but nothing’s as it seems.
You whispered of forever, of love that would stay,
But only to leave at the close of the day.
I gave you my heart, tender and wide,
But you were the storm that pushed me aside.
It wasn’t me, it wasn’t the sky,
It was you who let go, and made me ask why.
You were the one who couldn’t stay still,
A season of warmth that promised, then killed.
I thought I could change you, make you my truth,
But summer’s never loyal, no matter your youth.
You never held on, just left me to fall,
While I waited in silence, hearing your call.
But in the end, it was the season to blame—
For love's just a game when you’re only a flame.
Now all that remains are the echoes of you,
A love that was never, a love that never grew.
You were the one who couldn’t be true—
And I, the fool who believed in you.
