The French Revolution

The French Revolution (1789-1799) was driven by social inequality and economic distress. It began with the formation of the National Assembly and the storming of the Bastille. The abolition of the monarchy and execution of King Louis XVI marked a radical turn. The Reign of Terror followed, characterized by extreme political repression. Ordinary citizens faced economic instability and violence. Despite its chaos, the revolution led to significant changes like the abolition of feudal privileges. It ended with Napoleon Bonaparte seizing power in 1799, marking the transition to the Napoleonic era.
