The Voice That Wasn’t God

free note

When we are young, passion can feel like truth.

Lust can feel like love.

Hormones can feel like destiny.

Desire can become so strong that we mistake it for the voice of God.

But not every feeling is guidance.

Not every open door is from God.

Not every desire deserves obedience.

The flesh says, “I want it.”

Temptation says, “Take it.”

Pride says, “You deserve it.”

The world says, “Everyone does it.”

Then we convince ourselves that God must understand.

The problem is that passion lives in the present.

Wisdom looks at the end.

A moment of lust can leave consequences that last decades.

A lie takes seconds to speak and years to repair.

A relationship can end, a family can break, and trust can disappear long after the feeling is gone.

James 1:15 says:

“Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”

The young man sees the moment.

The older man sees the road.

And if God gives us enough time, grace allows us to look back and finally admit:

That wasn’t love.

That wasn’t wisdom.

That wasn’t God speaking.

That was desire sitting on the throne.

Repentance begins when we stop defending the voice that deceived us.

Passion says, “Now.”

Wisdom says, “Consider the end.”

Temptation says, “You can repent later.”

God says, “Today.”

The tragedy is not that we once made foolish choices.

The tragedy is recognizing the truth and still refusing to turn back.
