broken love
The day I once loved you,
and you didn't love me back,
it felt like a boulder sitting heavy on my chest.
But now that we are older,
the tables have turned—
you love me now,
but I don't know if I can love you back.My heart holds no one anymore.
I feel no love for anyone,
not like the warmth I once had.
Now, I am just cold.
You are angry all the time,
and I know it’s only a matter of time
before that anger turns on me.
Maybe then, the friction will make me warm.
But that isn't right.So I try, and I try,
to love you, to love us.
But the truth slips out in the details—
I hate your friends,
I hate your hands.
It isn’t your fault that I am this way,
so let me just speak the truth:
I am broken, and I cannot be fixed.Maybe that is why we get along.
We are both hurting, both fractured in the dark.
Maybe you are hoping I will be the one to fix you.
But I can't.
I cannot even fix myself.
