Wake Up & Fight
They told me this was right, that doubt was sin,
They carved their rules into my childhood skin.
They warned me silence was safer than sight,
That curiosity kills and shadows bite.
They said my questions were a demon’s mark,
So I learned to whisper in the growing dark.
They told me obedience keeps you alive,
That good girls fold so the righteous survive.
They said the world ends if you disobey,
That stepping outside means losing your way.
But their holy script was a rusted chain,
And every verse tightened around my brain.
They told me not to poke at the seams,
Not to trust the pulse beneath my dreams.
They said the truth is a serpent’s tongue,
That only the wicked want to die young.
But I felt the cracks in their sacred wall,
Heard something ancient in the quiet call.
They told me the narrative never bends,
That the story is fixed, beginning to end.
They said the path is narrow and straight,
That questioning destiny invites your fate.
But I saw the edits in their holy light,
The missing women, the erased midnight.
They told me no one leaves without cost,
That stepping out means being forever lost.
They said the world outside is a cursed domain,
A place where the brave return marked by flame.
But I tasted the air beyond their gate,
And knew their warnings were built from hate.
They told me rebellion is a poisoned seed,
That wanting more is a selfish greed.
They said I wasn’t made to stand alone,
That my voice was dust without their throne.
But I wasn’t taught to rebel or rise,
I learned it while bleeding from their pretty lies.
They told me to sleep through my own damn life,
To swallow the script and avoid the knife.
They said no one saves you from the night,
That only the chosen are allowed the light.
But no one wakes you — you wake yourself,
Drag your soul back down from their highest shelf.
They told me to kneel, but I chose to fight,
To tear my truth from the jaws of night.
They said I’d break if I stepped outside,
But breaking was better than being denied.
So I burned their story to claim my own,
And rose from the ashes, sovereign, & grown.
