The Frozen Pine Forest

A Pink Necromancer Microfiction

The pines groaned beneath the weight of snow, rain turning branches into slippery spears.

GhoulSpawn’s hooves cracked the ice with every step, while Quaraun trudged behind, clutching his cane and fearfully glancing up at the weighted down limbs threatening to crack and fall at any minute.

“This is absurd,” Quaraun grumbled. “We should have stayed in the tower.”

“It was ya're idea,” BoomFuzzy called from the bushes.

“Next time remind me to not listen to myself.”

GhoulSpawn grinned, from under the snow melting into icy water streaming down the ridges of his horns.

“We’re adventurers! Embrace the chaos.”

“Says the Chaos Demon.”

“Chaos isn't always bad, Quaraun. Pretend you are one of those adventurers who is always stalking you.”

“I hate Humans. All they ever do is call me evil, then hire adventuring groups to try to defeat me. Bring my head back as some trophy.”

“Well, that's the side effect of being a villain.”

“I am not a villain.”

“They think you are.”

“I am an Elf.”

“Elves can be adventurers. Today we are adventurers.”

BoomFuzzy appeared from the mist, carrying an armload of wood.

“Adventurers who’ll freeze their blooming bahookies off if we don’t hurry and get this camp set up. Why am i the only one doing any work?”

They set to work, building a fire in the clearing's centre.
