A surprisingly enjoyable and effective sequel, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors is largely set in a psychiatric hospital but uses this as a take off point for the Dream spaces of its patients who much like Nancy Thompson from the original film are threatened by the ultimate nightmare maker and slayer Freddy Krueger. Well directed by Chuck Russell with nice performances by Heather Lagenkamp as Nancy and Patricia Arquette and Jennifer Ruben as patients Kristen and Taryn respectively Dream Warriors remains one of strongest and the best of the sequels to A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Reservoir Dogs subverts some of the conventions of crime films by having a heist film that doesnt contain any scenes of a heist but merely discusses it, characters identified only by colors, an opening scene which has nothing to do with plot but wisely gives the audience an introduction to the personalities in the movie. Quentin Tarantino in his first feature creates a film that denies the audience the certainties provided in most genre crime and only provides enough for them to follow the narrative which is deliberately fractured through flashback anyway An intriguing and riveting debut film.

The most intriguing and thought provoking of the original Star Trek movies, Star Trek-The Motion Picture has been written off unfairly by both fans and disinterested parties alike. Star Trek is actually the engine that help drive the eventual success of the sequels and I would dare say Star Trek The Next Generation. Star Trek-The Motion Picture is space drama not space opera, an intelligent film that deals with an alien force not by mere threats but seeking understanding and communication.

A conspiracy thriller combined with post modern noir and wrapped in codes, symbols and subtext, Under The Silver Lake is a feature that requires attention and focus from the filmgoer. A filmic scavenger hunt that subverts expectations and conventions.
