Bootstraps and Breadlines

For far too long and counting,

The deficit is mounting,

While the hungry go on searching

In the richest country on Earth.

Our soldiers are still dying,

For the old, rich men, relying

On a hollowed Constitution,

In the richest country on Earth.

Our children are not learning,

While the home-front keeps on burning,

And the future eyes are blinded

In the richest country on Earth.

Deception’s all around us,

The law is mostly unjust,

Yet they preach the myth of bootstraps

In the richest country on Earth.

Please don’t give up on us,

When this shadow’s left the office,

The kindest and the wisest

Will rule again on Earth.

They’ll end the deep corruption,

Without a false assumption,

And we’ll know the way we’re headed

In the richest country on Earth.

Thanks for reading!! I write political poetry as a way to help me cope with all the chaos and unpredictability around us. I hope you will follow me as I write more in a series I’ve created.

You can publish here, too - it's easy and free.
