Hello, World!

Today is a very special day for me. I start my new job today as a waitress in my favorite bar! I've been unemployed since November 2025, so it feels nice to have a job again. No more struggling, no more taking out loans... At least not as much. In today's economy, we're all a little fucked, aren't we? Gas is officially $4+ where I live, and no that's not premium. We're at war with Iran which is super fun and totally not going to have any major repercussions. For sure. Personally, I'm a little afraid of seeing an invasion onto US soil. I'd love to hear everybody's thoughts on this issue and open up a conversation! Is Trump shitting his pants live on Fox News? The world may never know!

Let's talk about iPads for babies. Okay, maybe not literal babies (unless y'all crazy like that IDK!!!), but giving iPads to toddlers or young children... Should we be doing that? In my humble opinion, I think we are quite literally melting our children's brains by exposing them to technology too early. When you hand a kid an iPad, they have unrestricted (unless you have parental controls enabled, which most kids eventually learn how to bypass... as a kid who did that) access to the internet at their fingertips, and they get a sweet, sweet hit of dopamine every time they engage with that device. The games they play, the videos they watch, the ease of access to whatever they want at any time they want--should this even be allowed? I used to work as an elementary school music teacher and seeing how these kids act when they don't have their comfort device is concerning.

Kids' attention spans are shorter than ever. They're more behind in language skills than we ever have been. The introduction of technology into the classroom has done nothing but send the final nail into that iPad-shaped coffin to seal our children's fates. We have seen firsthand the results of technology in the classroom. Children are not making the neural connections they would be from handwriting when they tap a keyboard or a screen. Their fine motor skills are declining. Have you seen a child's handwriting recently? And I don't mean an elementary schooler, I mean a child in middle or high school. It's illegible! We need to make our kids write and we need to do it now. They groan when we say, "use complete sentences, please" and when you say, "one full paragraph"... oh, boy you're about to hear it. When I taught middle school orchestra, my students would never complete the written assignments I would give. I'd have maybe 5 or 6 of them turn in something and the other 30 would just stare at me. "We had an assignment?" Yes. It was posted on the board Monday and I announced the due date every day until then. Not only was it frustrating, but it directly affected my job performance statistics because I couldn't ever put in any grades without failing half the class. All in all, if you are a parent out there, take a poor teacher's advice and do not give your child that iPad for Christmas this year.

On another note, there is no other note. You've reached the end of today's rant. Congratulations! Come back some other time, and perhaps you'll find more.
