Is it better to love or be loved?
When we are kids we are raised believing that our parents will always love us.
We think that like it’s a fact,
That’s what we see in movies and read about in stories.
They must love us because they’re our parents, right?
I guess that I was wrong to believe that,
At least a little wrong.
As a little girl you believe that your father will help you get over your first heartbreak.
That he will threaten the boy who dared to hurt his little girl,
not be the one to hurt her.
Your father is supposed to show you what love should feel like,
he’s the only man that is supposed to be guaranteed to always love you.
Well I don’t want that kind of love ever again.
The kind of love that is shown through anger and violence.
The kind of love that is tainted by drugs and alcohol,
and problems that never should have been made mine.
Although that kind of love was only shown to his family.
So maybe our parents are guaranteed to love,
just not always us.
