The Ġgantija Temples
These ancient temples date back to around 3600 BCE which makes them older than the pyramids in Egypt and Stonehenge! The structures were built from giant stone blocks that weighed tons. If we consider the historical timeline it makes no sense that Neolithic people could construct such a structure.
The word "Ġgantija" itself literally translates to "giant" in Maltese. Folklore around this island says that Sansuna the giantess had fallen in love with a normal human. They had a baby together and in one day and night she had built one of these temples for her new family.
But, Ġgantija could suggest that ancient civilizations were more advanced than we had previously thought. The temples scale and precision hint at lost knowledge around technique. Similar stories around giants form up further towards Sicily. At the end of the last Ice Age, sea levels were a lot lower and so Malta was connected to Sicily and Italy by land bridges. Animals would migrate south as Europe cooled, so why wouldn't humans have followed?
Ghar Dalam cave have fossils of extinct deer and elephants which support this conclusion. Malta then had probably been isolated and their techniques lost. The whole story around Malta is so interesting because it pushes this idea that human civilization had more capabilities and advancements earlier than we normally would assume. This alone could change the perception we have around the established timeline.
Anyway I just thought that was interesting and if you want to know more about it I suggest looking into Graham Hancock and his books on forgotten ancient civilizations! :)
