Psalm 91

Psalm 91 is a beautifully detailed pronouncement of God’s protection and deliverance for those who “dwell in His presence” and trust Him as their “refuge”. To “dwell in His presence” means to seek His presence and counsel in any given circumstance.

• Verses 1–2: The one who lives under the shelter of the Most High God will rest securely in His shadow, proclaiming the LORD as their fortress because they trust Him completely. This faith causes the LORD’s will to be done here in this world as it is in Heaven. Notice the use of the term rest? Rest in His love and provision.

• Verses 3–13: God promises to:

• Deliver from traps and deadly plagues, in other words, give you the ability to resist temptations and overcome various trials.

• Shield with His wings; His Truth is that shield; His promises and His Word are the only Truth. Believe Him over your physical senses or reasoning.

• Remove fears of “the night”, arrows by day, pestilence, or destruction. Faith in His presence and love delivers us from the temptation to fear anything contrary to the care of the Almighty.

• Protection even amid widespread death (thousands falling around you). While the world is gripped with fear, confusion and destruction, those that trust in God are victorious and will overcome every ambush.

• Command His angels to guard and carry you, preventing destruction or death.

• Empower you to overcome dangerous beasts (lion, serpent, dragon). You have His power to overcome every attack and danger.

• Verses 14–16 (The LORD’s direct promise): Because you love and know Me,

• I will deliver and exalt you.

• I will answer your call, be with you in trouble, and honor you.

• I will grant long life and reveal My salvation.

Core Message: Abiding in God through faith and love guarantees divine protection, peace, and victory over every danger—spiritual, physical, and eternal.
