The heart is searching for something. We mistake it for love. What we seek internally is purpose. Who am I? Has long been the question that every person has ever sought an answer for. Even children want to know who they are. You are actively asking, seeking who am I because it's natural to want to know.

Most stories begin with a moment. Mine began with a fall — into addiction, into secrets, into a world run by ghosts and men who never say what they mean. One domino fell, then another — through orphanages, crack epidemics, CIA backchannels, surf camps, corruption, betrayals, machetes, and jail cells. But at the end of it all, this isn’t just a crime saga or political thriller. It’s a love story. An orphaned Florida surfer collided with Cold War shadows in Nicaragua — and found redemption not in power or money, but in the heart of a woman trained to survive horrors of her own. Because sometimes the final revolution isn’t revenge. It’s forgiveness.

The first in my Lenten series “Good Lord Deliver Us: The Great Litany as Exile Survival Kit.” In a moment when the center has collapsed and the church finds itself wandering in a wilderness not of its choosing, the Great Litany and the First Sunday in Lent meet us with the same invitation: honesty. This reflection explores what it means for the via media to live as a people in exile and to rediscover lament as the first act of faithfulness. hrough Scripture—Jesus in the wilderness, Adam and Eve hiding, the psalmist confessing, Paul proclaiming grace—we learn that deliverance begins not with solutions but with truth-telling. Lament is the language of exiles, the prayer that refuses to hide, the cry from the depths to the God who still hears.

Self-awareness is the first step in the art of surrender. It involves noticing where you resist life, cling to control, or obsess over outcomes. For example, feeling anxious about a job interview signals a desire to control the future. By observing your emotions (stress, fear, and restlessness) you recognize your attachment to a specific outcome. This awareness allows you to pause, acknowledge your urges, and separate action from attachment. Instead of forcing results, you focus on doing your best in the present moment, opening the door to true surrender and inner peace.

In a world driven by visibility, validation, and viral moments, acknowledgment has become both deeply desired and dangerously distorted. This entry explores the fine line between seeking recognition and chasing attention, examining intention, humility, and self-awareness in how we show up for others—and ourselves. At its core, it’s a reminder that the most meaningful acknowledgment doesn’t always come from applause, but from purpose, integrity, and within.

This piece is a deeply personal reflection on what it means to survive a childhood where love felt conditional and safety was never guaranteed. I share a journey through betrayal, generational wounds, and resilience, while discovering how pain can transform into purpose. Growing up in the shadow of jealousy shaped me, but it did not define me instead, it guided me toward healing, spiritual awakening, and becoming the love I once needed. This poem explores breaking cycles, reclaiming power, and stepping fully into my voice while choosing light over pain. It is a story of rising, becoming whole, and understanding how even the deepest wounds can shape us into something stronger, wiser, and free.

Growing up I didn't know much about politics, but I was raised in church, so I knew what it was to be a christian. Or at least that's what I thought. I remember in 7th grade when the church was saying impeach Clinton, I asked why? When I was told my response was different then everyone else's. I said, how is that any of our business, isn't that between him and his wife? I remember later on asking my mom if we were republican or Democrats. She said republican. And like I always asked, but why? What's the difference? She said, republicans are Christians and Democrats are atheist. It wasn't till I was 23 with my second kid; 2nd son in fact who is my mixed son, that I began to find out that's not what democrat means and I'm definitely liberal, and my opinion so is Jesus... I mean He says he came to set us free and that seems pretty liberating.
