A Day to Remember
The walkway was something she could blend into. She mused that part of her wanted to. The cobbles were a beige almost white swirled through with cream, light caramel and tiny flecks of brown. Her own skin was similar, but she had a light pattern like the snakes on another world. The diamonds on her back not in another color, but shaped by the lighter color which surrounded them.
The glorious healer called me stunning.
For her people, she was ordinary even dull. Bright patterns were considered beautiful. To one of the most glorious beings I have ever met, I am stunning. It felt good. She strode quickly, her people had been created as messengers and were light and agile. No one really knew all the creatures that had been used for her particular people, all they did know was that at least three had never evolved on any known world. Those were possibly the key to how mammals and reptiles and even insects had been chopped apart and blended.
She didn’t need to be fast for the errand she’d been tasked to, but the day was glorious and her body was made to run, so she did it for fun. The path was long, the building she worked in was set quite a distance in the middle of farmland, but she was quick and the edge of city suburbs not more than a brief run away. A small shopping center was her destination, the Director had forgotten to supply the penthouse with a few things. He was being quite funny, but she didn’t blame him. This woman was beautiful, even her own people considered her so. Why wouldn’t a ninety year old virgin who, for his people, was still in his prime not be smitten. Everyone who met her fell in love. The Director shouldn’t be immune especially since his people had been created with more human in them than her own.
She wished him well in her heart. His people, though honorable, were also stubborn mules to not see what a good man he was. Maybe this unusual human could change that for him. Her planet was still in the growth stages just before significant technologies would take them out to visit the rest of this section of the galaxy. They watched these types of planets with their technology but most importantly agents. These were native people from the target planet that were trained to just live their life but also supply information. When this world had the first stirrings of a balanced society, they took all the bad and discarded it, this had the effect of creating a glorious wonderland where all people could live free of fear, strife or harm. It was not that they had perfect lives, it was that everyone here made the effort to help others through those struggles. Some lived with little money and possessions, but only if they chose to. No one ever was hungry, dirty, tired or without shelter unless they wanted to be. The problem was the way this had been created also had created worlds that were harsh to the point of dystopia. At the moment no one had a solution, yet the planet they’re visitor came from was blossoming healers on a never before seen level and no one could find the balancing planet. Agents were now concentrated on this world to find out why it was happening and how to keep a counterpart from forming.
During her run she felt pain so deep it almost made her stumble and she slowed down.
In her head and through her body:
Relax dear one. She also sent love and comfort along their connection.
– But it’s my fault. His pain was palpable and hurt her whole body.
Yes. But hers for not smacking you upside your head. I tried to tell you.
– More pain from the connection.
I love you.
– That doesn’t help, no harm intended. Sorrow for her added to the pain.
It will eventually.
– Sounding like her really doesn’t help either. A glimmer of irony.
I still love you. Go find Nick, he will help.
He did and the pain dissipated into passion and she could run again. More passion from another pair, oh it’s her… oh lovely! Whomp that, he needs it.
Now at the store she found a few items they might need. Hopefully the Director would take her shopping at some point. The owner of a home is always the best one to buy necessities. She hadn’t bought too much and could carry it back but decided another run would be nice and used the teleport available in the middle of the shopping strip. It was a shelf at about table height that was half a full arm spread square and had a shimmer wave like look to it similar to the surface of a pool in sunlight. Placing her purchases on this she then put the silicone ring she wore on her thumb up by the credit scanner. Once accepted she input an address code and the shopping disappeared. It would appear in the penthouse and servants would make sure it was distributed to appropriate locations. Her errand complete, she could run where ever she liked. Her job as telepath could be done anywhere.
