Five Years After I've Passed

It's been five years since I passed, and I'm still stuck with the living because I refuse to make peace with the fact that I selfishly left everyone behind. Everyone suffered during the first couple of months after my passing; however, after that, they went on with their lives. I'm happy because everyone looks so happy.

Mom's job ended, and she started studying for her course while working a part-time job. She finished her courses on time and passed her exams with flying colors. You should have seen the look on her face. She got an apartment a while ago for herself, and she keeps the last picture of me smiling at the altar. She's been working the same job for a while now and earns enough that she doesn't need anyone.

Dad's doing pretty well for himself, too. He finally got his back fixed and was able to get back on his feet. He has his own company flipping houses. He moves around a lot, so he doesn't have one specific place he lives, but he does own a house in upstate New York and earns a lot of money. His flyers are all over the world, and he's receiving lots of contracts. Dad loves traveling, and his life is great.

My brother's doing great. After he finished trade school, he quit his job at McDonald's. He met his soon-to-be wife when he was out with his friends one night, and he hasn’t looked back since. He’s changed for the better—for her and for his future. He owns his own car and house and is thinking about proposing soon. They’re thinking about starting a family a year or two after marriage, and he’s making enough money to spoil Mom every month.
