I Should Have Stayed Home

free note

I ran. I didn’t know where to or when I was going to stop, but I ran. He told me to stay away tonight, but I didn't. Like an idiot I went over to his house. And on the full moon of all nights! My feet hurt. I had abandoned my sandals a ways back, so my feet were all cut up. It was dark and I couldn't see but I kept going.

I knew I was just prolonging the inevitable, but I didn’t want to die and if I stopped then I knew I was going to. Heck I was dead either way.

Lev was faster than me in his human form and even faster in his wolf form. I just hoped that the branches and roots in the forest would slow him down, even if just a little. What was I thinking?! There's no stopping a werewolf on a full moon. And as a human I probably look like a freaking snack!

I stopped for a moment to catch my breath and try to calm down. It was only a few seconds before I heard the crunch of the leaves and branches behind me. I froze.

Lev growled “grrrrrr.”

It was loud and ominous. My breath caught in my throat and I backed away slowly. He didn’t move, just continued to growl. If he wasn’t going to move then I wasn’t going to stand there and let him pounce.

I turned around and ran as fast as I could, zig zagging through the trees to try and lose him. My feet were bleeding and it felt like the forest went on forever. Even if I managed to get away from him the trail of blood would lead him right to me. I knew I was going to die, but I didn’t want my body to give up just because death was inevitable. So I pushed it as far back into my mind as possible.

I just hoped he wouldn't feel too guilty after the fact. Lev was a nice guy, but his wolf was merciless. I heard his steps veer off to the side a little.

That gave me some hope.

Maybe a rabbit or deer caught his attention, but that wouldn’t keep him off me for too long. It would give me 5 minutes at most because nothing as small as a deer would satisfy the wolf. Who was I kidding?! That thing could eat a whole neighborhood and still not be sated.

It felt like I had been running for hours, but it had probably only been 20 minutes. I heard a howl in the distance.

“Oh crap” I thought.

He must have only caught a rabbit because it had only been a minute at most since his steps had faded. I speed up just a little.

This was probably the stupidest thing I had ever done, but I looked back to see how close he was. Luckily he was still a ways back. I turned back around and ran face first into a branch. I hit the ground with a thud .

My vision was hazy for a few seconds. When I tried to stand I fell straight back on my butt.

“Dammit!” I whispered along with a slew of other curses.

I knew I couldn't just sit there so I began to crawl. As I went my vision slowly came back. When I went to stand , I heard him.

A barely audible, low growl.

I could hear him slowly walking towards me. Just as I heard his claws dig into the ground I ran again.

I could see the edge of the forest not even 100 yards away. I kept going and within a few seconds I was out. I could see a neighborhood and went to it. The first house that I saw I knocked on the door. When I heard footsteps coming to the door I thought I was saved. Then when a kind looking older woman opened the door the fear slowly seeped back in.

If i asked her for help Lev would kill us before i even got in the house or she would have a heart attack when i told her.

I have to make up an excuse.

“ Hello -, oh gosh dear you're a mess. Are you alright?” the woman said.

“Oh my mistake, I thought this was a different house. Please excuse me, I need to go,” I said as I stepped back and began to turn around.

I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw him. He growled once again and lunged at me. I just barely dogged him as I moved out of the way. When I heard the old woman scream I began to cry. That was the only time I cried that night. I got up and slowly started to back away from the house, but when I saw the blood I ran.

I ran back into the woods screaming trying to get Lev’s attention. I knew after a feed he would be faster but I didn't care. If dying ment saving a town of helpless people, then I’d do it.

I could just barely make out the sound of him starting to run after me. I noted how fast he was catching up to me and tried to run faster.

Leaves and stickers crunched and slid behind me. I felt his claws and paw pads hit my back as I was tackled to the ground. Once again I hit the ground with a hard thoud. The wind was knocked out of me and I gasped and winced when I felt the forest floor jab smaller pieces of wood and brush into my hands and knees.

Lev growled in my ear and dug his claws into my back. I held back a scream hoping no one would come to save me and die because of it. I tried to push him off me and get up but he just dug his claws deeper into my back.

I gave up.

‘This is how I'm going to die’ I thought to myself.

I relaxed my body as much as I could. The last thing i felt was Lev hesitate before biting into my neck, effortlessly breaking it and killing me.

Lev’s pov - the next morning

I woke up groggy, but with a sated wolf. Realizing that, I was wide awake. The wolf was never sated after a full moon even when I ate 7 or 8 deer and a few smaller animals. This concerned me; then I remembered.

‘Crap, Viv came over last night and she didn’t leave before I shifted,’ I thought to myself.

I looked around frantically, hoping like hell the blood I was covered in wasn’t hers. When I saw the mangled and bloody corpse a few yards away, the hope disappeared.

‘Please don’t be her, please don’t be her’ I begged to whatever god would listen.

What little hope I had left was crushed when I stood up and saw the ring that I had given her for our 2 year anniversary. My wolf had made sure to leave it intact so I would see it and know what I did.

Tears rose to my eyes, ``You sick bastard!” I screamed.

I dropped to my knees and continued to yell.

“AHHHHHH! No, please, no, Viv, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, please don’t leave me, please.” I said as my voice began to break and get quiet.

In the mists of my freak out I heard a gun cock. I turned my head and the last thing I remember is a sharp pain in my neck and then darkness.
