Fall reishi in the morning sun

This weekโs foraging adventures in the Northeast brought some exciting discoveries! The rain and humidity made this weekend's wandering extra special with some cool finds! ๐ฒ๐
๐ Reishi โ The iconic โmushroom of immortalityโ is showing up beautifully this season. Its rich red hues and woody texture are a reminder that patience pays off in the forest.
๐ Violet Webcap โ These delicate little gems continue to grace the mossy forest floor. Always a joy to spot their vivid color! There's just something special about finding a purple mushroom! ๐
๐ Russula โ A diverse group of mushrooms, adding color and character to the woodland landscape. Identification tips: check gill color and taste (mild vs. acrid).
๐ Chicken of the Woods โ Bright, meaty, and perfect for the skillet. Early finds this week are small but promisingโgreat for a warming meal.
๐ Maitake โ Still playing hard to getโฆ hoping to find some soon! This is my favorite and I cannot wait to share with you my fall maitaike, or hen of the woods, recipes!
For anyone exploring your local woods, remember to forage responsibly: know your mushrooms well and leave some behind. ๐ฟ
