Discovering Your Voice Your writer's voice isn’t just about the way you write—it’s about how you share your perspective. It’s shaped by your life, your emotions, and how you see the world. Finding your voice is about being true to yourself and expressing that truth clearly in your writing. It’s what makes your stories feel authentic. It’s the core of your writing; the part that makes your stories stand out and resonate with others. At first, your voice may not seem fully formed. You may be copying others or not sure where you stand. This is normal. Like a singer finding their tone or a painter finding their brushstroke, discovering your voice takes time. You don't need to force it but must be open to it.

Let's talk about your writer's voice. I have a fascinating view of a writer's voice. I believe this is a part of you and another part of your being. A system not much different than your muscular system, requiring work, support, and nurturing to grow in size and strength. And, like your personal voice, your writer's voice has a character and persona. For me, mine is Mystic Scribe©. She has a personality and presence that is, in many ways, very different from my everyday life. I give her that freedom so that my writing can come to life without my blocks and mental processes getting in the way. Part of my writing practice has been embracing and developing her so my stories can grow.

A writer should write every day to keep their creative juices flowing. You've probably heard this before. There is some truth to this. You see, I believe that creativity is like a river flowing through us. Sometimes, it's strong; sometimes, it's a trickle. But by learning how to connect with it, we can harness its power and direct it to build worlds, tell stories, and share our truth. And sometimes, when we talk about discipline and focused work, it can take the creativity out of the creative process.
