Read more from New Subscriber ContestA Lunatic Moon is a fictional tale of horror. Some aspects of it are historically related. For instance, dates of certain events are actual. I wanted to write a story like this with a unique approach to the ordinary. In other words, this is no ordinary horror story. As a big fan of horror, I have done the best I can to keep you looking over your shoulder when you are alone. Mike Vansickle is attacked and killed by a wild animal on the railroad tracks while walking home from a party. His close friend, Danny Ferguson, finds his body, and the police are dispatched to the town of Glen George.
Functioning Faith explores what it means to practice an honest, justice-rooted Episcopal faith when the center has collapsed and the usual solutions no longer work. Written for spiritually serious unpartnered women navigating institutional church, political chaos, and the long work of remaining faithful without performing certainty. Grounded in the via media. Honest about the exile. Looking for resurrection in the places the institution forgot to check.
A space where language softens and breathes. This poetry section gathers moments both tender and raw — reflections on love, memory, womanhood, longing, and the quiet magic hidden in ordinary days. Each piece is crafted to linger, to stir something familiar, and to leave you feeling a little more seen, a little more understood.

This stream is a long-form narrative unfolding in real time—part memoir, part true crime, part geopolitical thriller, and at its core, an epic love story. From an orphaned childhood in Florida to surf culture, addiction, Cold War shadows tied to Iran-Contra, betrayal in Nicaragua, and an impossible reunion years later, I explore how small decisions trigger seismic consequences. Cinematic, investigative, and deeply human—this is about survival, secrets, and the kind of love that outlives chaos

Stories from my life, thoughts, opinions, and facts I'll share about myself. I want to make writing a positive experience for me but also to show people that there is hope in the midst of hitting rock bottom. I can remember always wanting to be a writer as a kid and I fell more in love with it in college when I started writing short essays about my life and my experiences and how writing about them actually helped my pain and anger and turned it into curiosity and inspiration. I have a gift so why not use it? This is a really cool hobby to do!

What a Mess. Political satire hidden within actual news and life lessons.

If there was ever a way to publicly humiliate an allied leader—one who is literally fighting for his country’s survival—Trump and his administration managed to find it.
While unprecedented, the legal and diplomatic basis for this approach is intriguing. This bold move could offer Ukraine several major advantages...

some places don’t just hold your footsteps. they hold the parts of you that don’t make a sound. these little gravel roads have been keeping those pieces of me for years. gathering them the way fallen leaves gather along the edges, slow and gentle and without asking for anything back.
On 09/09/09, I stepped off a plane into the heavy heat of Managua, unaware my old life was ending. Divorced, drifting, and quietly addicted, I had been bouncing between apartments along Jacksonville’s beaches when an appraisal job introduced me to Frank, a Nicaraguan with deep political ties. After one exploratory surf trip with friends, I saw opportunity beyond the crowded southern Pacific and returned alone to build what would become GreenSurf. Staying in a worn-down quinta, sober and hyper-observant, I began constructing a surf camp business while absorbing a world of diplomats, lumberyards, and Spanish conversations I barely understood. The reset had begun.
Most stories begin with a moment. Mine began with a fall — into addiction, into secrets, into a world run by ghosts and men who never say what they mean. One domino fell, then another — through orphanages, crack epidemics, CIA backchannels, surf camps, corruption, betrayals, machetes, and jail cells. But at the end of it all, this isn’t just a crime saga or political thriller. It’s a love story. An orphaned Florida surfer collided with Cold War shadows in Nicaragua — and found redemption not in power or money, but in the heart of a woman trained to survive horrors of her own. Because sometimes the final revolution isn’t revenge. It’s forgiveness.

"No, it is Kit-Ty," Harold corrected, shaking his head. "She says it wrong. She is still a baby," Elise said gently. "Meow, meow… meowww," Nadine mimicked the family cat, her tiny frame wiggling like a kitten in play. Eli dropped to his hands and knees beside her. "Meowww!" he exaggerated, scrunching his nose and wiggling his fingers like whiskers. "Ugh, this is ridiculous," Harold groaned. As Nadine moved, the soft fur of her costume brushed against her arms, keeping her warm against the cool fall air. She did not know it yet, but this was something she would carry forever. Her orange-striped costume tail flicked behind her. It was her first Halloween, the night she would start transforming into something more. Later, as shadows stretched across the walls, she whispered her first sign of something greater. "Here, Key-Kee."
"The melody of ‘Jesus Loves the Little Children’ drifted through the quiet church, each note steady beneath Yara’s fingertips. No one noticed how her back stiffened, how her breath caught just slightly before she pressed forward, playing through the sharp waves of pain. The music continued, but time itself seemed to slow. It wasn’t time. Not yet."

You know the feeling when you keep telling yourself, “I have to go there”? Somehow, you just… never do. That was me with Bilbao. For years. It kept popping up on my list, quietly sitting there, waiting. But this time, I finally did it. I went to the north of Spain, to the heart of the Basque Country. Hello. My name is Dr. AY Heath; you can call me Angel. I'm here to chronicle a big goal for myself. And trust me, it is a very big goal. So what is this big goal. I’m going to read and break down 150 film scripts. That does sound like a lot, but it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while and, after stepping away from my corporate job, I dove into film school and have been diving deep into the process of storytelling. But I want to do more than just learn technical skills; I want to understand what works and doesn't and see where we're in this big filmmaking industry.

Sometimes wisdom comes from the most unexpected places. In this reflection, I explore how even people we disapprove of—or might instinctively condemn—can offer valuable insights about accountability, truth, and personal responsibility. The story highlights the importance of separating the messenger from the message: listen carefully, reflect, and act wisely, no matter the source.
