The media we consume as people affects how we view ourselves and each other, this is very evident while looking at media within the superhero genre. Superheroes are created largely to inspire people to be stronger, so when some groups are left out of those groups, it impacts them more than other genres would. Queer people have been coded into superhero stories quite a bit and their presence can be felt throughout the genre. Despite this, it took a long time for any actual queer characters to be confirmed in superhero media. Disabled people have also been treated in hurtful ways, and writers rarely know how to portray characters with disabilities with any kindness. And of course, Women have always been treated as objects within these stories. Even still marginalized people have fought to make the superhero genre a place where they can feel welcome and seen and their efforts are slowly paying off.
