Prompt: Going to various places in the school, and I will ask you to use your senses to record sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch. Then, we will return, and you will write a prose piece/ poem based on what you saw/ heard/ smelled/ tasted/ touched. Requirements: Gather sensory information from each place. Use the chart I’ve given you as a guide. When we return, choose some of the sensory information and create a poem OR piece of prose, about ten lines or so, from what you’ve written (it can be longer). Based on a conversation between my friends that I overheard. The contrast between such a raw topic, paired with the lighthearted, repetitive game of ping pong was interesting to me.

This was based on a conversation I had with boy I hardly knew. He felt that he knew a lot about me because I was willing to share certain information easily, which surprised me because I don't think he knew anything real about me.

This is a slam piece on the limiting standards of young women in society. Sometimes it feels like I am fighting to feel valuable, and am isolating myself by doing what is seen as acceptable. TW: swearing, sexual language, negative self talk

This was performed for my Poetry Club in school. Very satirical and lighthearted. Exploring the use of rhyme schemes, I wanted readers to imagine flipping through a picture book.

The Theme Is: Seasons of Change I wrote this piece to symbolize my struggles with seasonal depression. Especially living in New York, the cold tends to attack you with very little mercy. I suffer pretty badly from the changing of the seasons, but this piece was written to hold me accountable for seeing the good of change. This was published in my school's literary magazine in 2024.

Prompt: 3 Things People May Pass Judgement On. 3 Things That Actually Describe You. I decided to write about my experiences with anxiety, and how I often fear I do not fit into a conventional mold, especially in school. I also wrote about my experiences having 2 moms, as people are frequently homophobic towards me for the way I was raised. This was for an assignment in my Writer's Workshop elective, so a specific structure is evident. Let me know what you think!
