I want one more day of Pride. July 1: Found Family Day. Because I can’t remember the exact date I felt accepted. I can’t remember the first words I said to my husband— only that, for the first time, I felt like I’d made a real friend. Life gave me found family—so I’m giving it a day. July 1. Because having pride and finding your people is #1. Spend the day with me. I don’t write these stories to get noticed. I write to find family. Found Family Day is for anything that made you a better person. It’s for the day you pulled a kitten off the highway— even if you never knew their birthday, or the name of the road. It’s for those of us who didn’t get a DNA match— who had to go out and build something better. Like that kitten. Like me, hearing my husband’s voice for the first time. And if you love young Felix, I will write him for your children.

A short time ago, an apparently despondent squirrel flung itself onto a transformer behind the building in which I work causing a major power outage lasting over 1½ days. On the first day back to work much discussion ensued over what circumstances could cause a squirrel to resort to such measures. Trouble at home; not enough nuts set aside to pay rent on the tree; suffering from some kind of terminal squirrel disease. Of course, it was all speculation.

Where sports are involved, I'm a firm believer in a solid knowledge and command of the basics. Shooting rubber bands, as with any big game, requires a similar background. While you are probably more acquainted with domesticated rubber bands, which are plentiful and easily captured, rubber bands in the wild prove much more elusive.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there, and have passed on, to all the families out there, a good dad or a bad dad. A family still isn't it without one, love/like them today, it's still their day, and here is a short story for them. (Sorry, I was late. I was busy on Father's Day and couldn't post anything early, just in case my dad saw it. Also, check out my Instagram faye_ink to see hand-drawn pictures of this story.)

Gwendolyn is embroiled in a bitter battle with the pug next door. I believe she blames him for the hole in the front yard. The neighbors have done their best to back my explanation that the hole is the responsibility of the German Shepard down the street, but she isn’t having any of it.

Being a “good boy” can mean different things depending on the context—whether you're joking, being sincere, or looking for personal growth. But assuming you're being genuine and want to be a good person who's respected, kind, and dependable, here are some core principles: 1. Be Kind Treat others with respect, even when they don't agree with you. Practice empathy—try to understand what others are feeling. Help people when you can, even in small ways. 2. Be Honest Tell the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable. Be real with yourself and others—don't pretend to be someone you're not. 3. Be Responsible Own your mistakes. Don't blame others when things go wrong. Follow through on your promises. Take care of your health, your environment, and your relationships.

Jen-ny!” Chloe and Delilah snickered from behind me. At first I thought they had said my name. I went back to coloring my butterfly. But then I heard it again. ‘Jennnnnnn-nnnnnny!’ ‘Jenny!’ I felt a forceful gap on my shoulder and turned. I hated when people wasted my inside recess, so I hoped that this was a good deal. ‘Sorry, but…my name is Yenny.’ I said. Delilah was cracking up and I couldn’t figure out why. Chloe looked disgusted at me. ’That’s not your Christian name.’ Chloe snickered.

Prompt: Write a longer poem, or a page or so of prose, where you observe the world around you AND TELL A STORY ABOUT IT. This doesn’t have to be about what you are currently observing; it can be about something that you have observed in the past. Zoom in to details and use caesura, end-stopped and enjambed lines, similes, metaphors, and imagery to make your writing come alive for the reader. This is a LONGER poem, where you get a little contemplative!

💧 Is Water Wet? Or Have We Been Lied To? 🤯 At first, the answer seems obvious. Of course, water is wet… right? But what if I told you water isn’t actually wet—it just makes things wet? 🧐 If something is constantly in water, is it wet or just existing? Is a fish underwater wet, or does it only become wet when removed? What if wetness is just a sensation and water isn’t wet until we touch it? Yeah… welcome to the overthinking spiral. Click to dive deeper (but not too deep, or you’ll be permanently wet… or will you?). 🚰💭
