I want one more day of Pride. July 1: Found Family Day. Because I can’t remember the exact date I felt accepted. I can’t remember the first words I said to my husband— only that, for the first time, I felt like I’d made a real friend. Life gave me found family—so I’m giving it a day. July 1. Because having pride and finding your people is #1. Spend the day with me. I don’t write these stories to get noticed. I write to find family. Found Family Day is for anything that made you a better person. It’s for the day you pulled a kitten off the highway— even if you never knew their birthday, or the name of the road. It’s for those of us who didn’t get a DNA match— who had to go out and build something better. Like that kitten. Like me, hearing my husband’s voice for the first time. And if you love young Felix, I will write him for your children.

A short time ago, an apparently despondent squirrel flung itself onto a transformer behind the building in which I work causing a major power outage lasting over 1½ days. On the first day back to work much discussion ensued over what circumstances could cause a squirrel to resort to such measures. Trouble at home; not enough nuts set aside to pay rent on the tree; suffering from some kind of terminal squirrel disease. Of course, it was all speculation.

Where sports are involved, I'm a firm believer in a solid knowledge and command of the basics. Shooting rubber bands, as with any big game, requires a similar background. While you are probably more acquainted with domesticated rubber bands, which are plentiful and easily captured, rubber bands in the wild prove much more elusive.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there, and have passed on, to all the families out there, a good dad or a bad dad. A family still isn't it without one, love/like them today, it's still their day, and here is a short story for them. (Sorry, I was late. Gwendolyn is embroiled in a bitter battle with the pug next door. I believe she blames him for the hole in the front yard. The neighbors have done their best to back my explanation that the hole is the responsibility of the German Shepard down the street, but she isn’t having any of it.

Life is great when you live it to th fullest. I do love life and the definition of life. Life is what I am writing about.
