Hundreds of theater workers marched down Broadway on Thursday, rallying to demand more inclusion in the industry, protesting producer Scott Rudin and to call for greater transparency from the Actors’ Equity Association union. “I believe that change is possible. I believe that a Broadway led by a racially diverse, many-gendered or non-conforming, many-abled theater community is possible,” said speaker Jaime Cepero. “I believe that a consistently safe work environment in the theater is possible.”

The big budget musical "Frozen" will not reopen when Broadway theaters restart, marking the first time an established show has been felled by the coronavirus pandemic. The Disney show opened in March 2018 and placed among the top five Broadway productions for both gross and attendance over both years it ran, often pulling in over $1 million, and even $2 million a week.

October Movie Releases That You Cannot Miss

There are only two and half months left in 2019, but still a lot of movies to see. Many Oscar contenders have yet to release, but there has been a lot of buzz around films coming out of the Toronto, New York, and Cannes Film Festivals. To no surprise, industry heavyweights like Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, and Willem Dafoe have films releasing this year. For this list, I have chosen to include October releases that you must see. I will be making separate lists for November and December. Only time will tell which films rise to the top, but here are some can’t miss movies for the month of October.

A man frightened theatre-goers in Baltimore Wednesday night when he began shouting "Heil Hitler! Heil Trump!" during intermission of a classic play set in a Jewish village in czarist Russia. The patron's pro-Nazi and pro-Trump outburst during a production of "Fiddler on the Roof" sent panicked people running for the exits. Some said they also heard the man shouting, "MAGA," President Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan.

Charlottesville drama teacher to get special Tony Award

The special Tony Award that honors educators this year will go to a drama teacher in Charlottesville, Virginia, who has encouraged her students to explore their differences and heal rifts, especially following a deadly 2017 white nationalist rally in the city. Madeline Michel from Monticello High School will receive the 2019 Excellence in Theatre Education Award on June 9 at the Tony Awards in New York City.
