After widespread public criticism of Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx and federal charges against celebrity attorney Michael Avenatti, R. Kelly's lawyer wants to view any communications the two may have shared about his superstar client. "There are serious questions whether Kim Foxx was bullied or just simply manipulated by Avenatti and others," attorney Steven Greenberg, defending R. Kelly against aggravated criminal sexual abuse charges, wrote in a motion filed Monday. The filing is one of the first — but likely far from the last — to try to capitalize on the firestorm facing Foxx after her office abruptly dropped all charges last week against "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett with little explanation.

When Elizabeth Warren took the stage to launch her presidential run to the strains of Dolly Parton's "9 to 5," the song seemed to sum up the spirit of a candidacy built on giving workers a fairer shake. Only days earlier, fellow Democrat Kamala Harris had exited her own campaign kickoff rally with an equally fitting musical choice of "My Shot," an anthem of ambition for political change from the hit musical "Hamilton." The song's chorus, delivered by a young Alexander Hamilton, underscored Harris' confident emergence as a top-tier White House contender: "I'm just like my country, I'm young, scrappy and hungry, and I'm not throwing away my shot." Presidential candidates have used thematic songs to great effect in recent decades.

R&B singer R. Kelly walked out of a Chicago jail on Saturday, shortly after someone paid $161,000 that he owed in back child support. Kelly, who was ordered taken into custody on Wednesday by a judge after Kelly said he didn't have the entire $161,000 he owed, briefly spoke with reporters, telling them: "I promise you, we're going to straighten all this stuff out." He said that was all he could say, a stark contrast to a nationally televised broadcast that aired earlier in the week in which he cried and ranted about being "assassinated" by allegations of sexual abuse that led to criminal charges last month.
